Wings Financial Advisors:
Wealth Advisor - CIMA® CFP®

John Degelmann

Meet John.

John Degelmann is a Wealth Advisor with LPL Financial.

I’m an experienced financial advisor with over 25 years in the financial services industry. After graduating from Providence College, I began my career at Merrill Lynch in New York in 1994 as an entry-level employee and became financial consultant in 1998. From 1999 to 2013, I specialized in retail investment distribution, serving as Regional Vice President of Sales with Prudential Investments, Allianz, and finally First Trust Portfolios. I joined the Wings Financial Advisors team as an Advisor in 2017.

As a CFP® professional, I specialize in comprehensive financial planning, with a focus on investments, retirement planning, and estate planning. My practice is based on three core principles: fee transparency, asset allocation, and knowing my customer.

My wife, Katherine, relocated me to Woodbury, Minnesota, where we are in the process of raising three children. We enjoy the outdoors, cooking, and spirited debates about adding a dog.

Ask me anything.

What’s your favorite client rags-to-riches story?
I don’t have a favorite story, but I will say this: I have seen more investors become wealthy by investing in well-known companies than by buying penny stocks based on rumors. Many investors who find great success do so by keeping things simple – buying shares of companies whose products they use every day.
How do Wings advisors get paid?
First and foremost, we’re paid a salary by the Credit Union. We’re full-time employees (as well as members), with benefits and regular paychecks. The Credit Union did this so our members would feel comfortable coming in to meet with us, as we don’t need to sell high-commission products to put food on the table.
I am thinking of switching my assets to Wings. Why should I?
Firstly, we’re a member-driven organization from top to bottom. Having worked at some of the largest brokerage and insurance companies in the world, I can tell you with confidence that Wings is an organization that “walks the talk” when it comes to taking care of our membership. I’ve worked for companies where the mission statement on the wall did not match the business practices. That’s not an issue here.
